THE MIDLIFE EDIT

90% of women in midlife report feeling unseen & invisible. We are creating a world where they are celebrated, supported, and thriving.

The MidLife Maze

Midlife brings changes on every front; the days are long, the years are short.

The children are growing up faster than we expected, needing us less than they used to.

Careers are all-consuming and yet don’t have a clear next step.

Relationships are evolving and family life may not have worked out as expected.

The body, the soul and the emotions are going through many changes, all at once.

Parents are aging and need care.

Between home, work, family, relationships and care-giving, midlife can feel overwhelming and messy.

Our Purpose

The story of Vividly began with a simple idea – to create a platform that empowers women to transition, edit and flourish through midlife.

Transition

Midlife is a node of transition in a woman’s life. The kids may be leaving home, relationships are evolving, careers are shifting gears, and the body is changing. Through this transition, it is difficult to find trusted, science-backed, experts in a highly fragmented ecosystem.

Midlife edit

A new chapter is unfolding in this season of life. Fewer familial responsibilities bring freedom and hard-earned disposable income can be repurposed for things that give us joy. To evolve from the “midlife mess”, we need a “midlife edit” to tailor our time, energy, priorities and our focus. We need to move forward with purpose and let go with grace.

Flourishing

Vividly fully believes that midlife can be a time of great human flourishing. Embracing the transition and the midlife edit to get to the other side where flourishing lies.

Our Co-founder and CEO, Nina Pustilnik

Vividly is the brainchild of our co-founder, Nina Pustilnik. A graduate from Columbia University, Nina shaped digital innovation from the frontlines at top tier companies. She was McKinsey’s first internet specialist, JP Morgan’s first internet analyst, Time Warner’s first digital innovation expert and the SVP of Digital Initiatives at Sony Pictures managing a business critical P&L. Alongside her career successes, Nina has a full life with many interests, friends and family, and active hobbies. Skiing keeps her on the slopes every weekend in winter.

Nina’s Transition

Nina’s life changed irreversibly when a catastrophic injury, diagnosed as Neuropathic Pain Management Syndrome, left her in crippling pain throughout her head, face, ear, neck teeth and upper spine. Immediate interventions did not work, and over 6 years, Nina had to undergo several hospitalizations, surgeries and extensive rehab.

Nina’s Midlife Edit

But Nina pushed herself forward through her rehabilitation to make a full recovery after 6 years. When she re-emerged, ready to pick things up from where she had left off, two things had happened: One, the corporate world did not want her anymore, seeing her as a woman over 40 with a significant career break, and Two: she was a different person left changed by her health odyssey in search of a purpose that she could channel her time and energy toward.

Nina’s Flourishing

Nina became intrigued by social impact and enrolled into a social entrepreneurship program at Stanford where she met other midlife women in the midst of similar inflection points and significant transitions. It was through this community and immersive educational experience that Nina realized that her life’s meaning was to help women in midlife transform the mess into a celebration.

As she spoke with midlife women, interviewing over 350 of them from all walks of life, she saw a pattern: every single one of them was navigating this life transition uneasily, wanted an edit and was seeking to flourish in one or more aspects of their lives after. This has strengthened Nina’s belief that midlife is an important, under-discussed, poorly understood node of transition in a woman’s life. She founded Vividly as a solution to it.
